Medic'EAU

Optimisation of antibiotic dosage data and vaccine administration conditions with a view to improving their efficacy in the strategy for controlling furunculosis in sustainable fish farming

Description of the project :

Reducing the use of antibiotics and the emergence and spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and genes, while at the same time preserving animal welfare, are currently key issues in the development of sustainable fish farming. Furunculosis caused by Aeromonas salmonicida sub salmonicida is one of the most common bacterial diseases affecting rainbow trout farms in France. Medicinal treatments (antibiotics and vaccines) for this disease are controversially effective, and their use may not be optimal in the context of reducing medicinal inputs for sustainable farming. The aim of the Medic'EAU project is to provide scientific knowledge on antibiotic dosage regimens and vaccine administration conditions in order to optimise their use and increase their effectiveness in sustainable fish farming. This project will be carried out in conjunction with players in the French professional fish farming industry (Les Aquaculteurs Bretons, CEVA-Biovac, Labocea, GDSA-NA) and the public research units of ONIRIS and ANSES (UMR Oniris/INRAE 1300, ANSES EMAD unit). The results obtained will be disseminated to industry professionals for rapid, practical application in livestock farming, as soon as the project is completed
