REPROSCOPE & MARIAGE

Economic Impact of Dairy Cattle Breeding

Two projects led by the UMT Cattle Health around reproduction in dairy cattle breeding

Automated heat detection solutions are offered to dairy farmers to improve the reproductive performance of the herd. However, the cost/benefit ratio of equipment can vary according to the breeding system (production level, size, etc.).

Within the framework of the projects:

  • REPROSCOPE - National Observatory of Reproductive Performance of Dairy and Suckler Cattle Herds,
  • MARIAGE - Automated Reproduction Monitoring: Innovations and Applications for Dairy Cattle Breeding,

An evaluation of the benefit generated by a shortening of the calving interval and the cost of the investment in a heat detector is carried out for farms with various characteristics using the UMR herd simulator.
