The Inra Pays de la Loire centre at the Salon de l'Agriculture

The Inra Pays de la Loire centre at the Salon de l'Agriculture from 23 February to 3 March 2019

A team of researchers and technicians from UMR BIOEPAR will be on hand to help run the INRA stand on the theme of "The Secret Life of Plants and Animals". Through numerous animations, you will be introduced to the modes of communication and interactions that exist between plants, animals and micro-organisms.

The International Agricultural Show is expected to attract no less than 672,000 visitors in 2018, with nearly one in three visitors spending a full day on site. The TiBoDi team from UMR BIOEPAR will be offering fun and interactive activities for young and old alike on the theme "The secret life of plants and animals".
The research of the TiBoDi (Ticks and Tick Borne Diseases) team of the UMR INRA-Oniris BIOEPAR (Biology, Epidemiology and Risk Analysis in Animal Health) focuses on ticks and the diseases transmitted by these arthropod vectors, using various approaches ranging from genomics to community ecology, population dynamics, parasitology and infectiology.

Within the theme chosen this year by INRA, the animations proposed will focus on "how ticks adapt to their environment (especially abiotic: humidity, temperature ...), perceive the presence of hosts within their agro-ecosystem (adults in search of a host at the end of a blade of grass), reproduce and develop (females laying eggs)". Visitors will be able to discover this secret life of ticks in a terrarium illustrating the different biotopes in which ticks are found (mosses and forest litter, pastures, crops), with live ticks (including 1 or 2 gorged females laying eggs and males and females of different species to illustrate their biodiversity). Magnifying glasses will allow visitors to observe the contents of the terrarium from outside. Various films illustrating the biology of ticks and the diseases they transmit will provide a medium for discussion with visitors.
