Aquaculture Experimental Station Renovated to Better Meet Fish Needs and Manage Water Resources

The aquaculture experimental station of UMR BIOEPAR in Oniris has been renovated. The works make it possible to accommodate the animals by controlling the water temperature despite seasonal fluctuations, in compliance with Directive 2010/63/EU and animal welfare. The new facility takes better account of environmental issues, thanks to a recirculated water circuit and increased effluent treatment capacity. Water resources are thus better managed. Similar developments are gradually being adopted in modern aquaculture production systems. The plant is a very specific tool for studying fish diseases under conditions similar to production conditions. It thus meets various research needs on the transmission of bacterial fish diseases and the search for alternatives to antibiotics to control them. It also makes it possible to test therapeutic innovations, in collaboration with industrial partners.

This tool enables the APPIfish team of the UMR BIOEPAR INRA-Oniris research projects to be supported and is an asset for training in animal experimentation and for the INRAE aquaculture species health charter.
