More than 80 participants for Sant'Innov Day

The BIOEPAR research unit (INRA / Oniris) organised a day of presentation of the first results of the Sant'Innov project, which brought together more than 80 animal health professionals (veterinarians, breeders, technicians, students, etc.).

Sant'Innov, PSDR Grand Ouest project, aims to explore a new approach to the greening of livestock production that takes into account animal health. The goal is, on the one hand, to contribute to a renewed interest in the prairie in dairy cattle production systems and, on the other hand, to support the adaptation of dairy and meat cattle and swine production systems to reduce the use of antibiotics.

During this afternoon, the first key results of the project were presented and discussed. In particular, participants were able to attend the presentation of two tools developed within the framework of Sant'Innov: Tibena, a tool for measuring animal welfare in commercial dairy cattle production, and ATLESS, a risk analysis grid for respiratory diseases in young beef cattle at the time of batching. The second part of the afternoon was devoted to the study of the motivations of stakeholders for a change in cattle farming practices, whether it is to maintain grassland or to reduce antibiotics.

Finally, a discussion session was proposed to the participants on the two major themes of the project: grassland maintenance and reduction of antibiotics. The discussions were lively and constructive and allowed the day to close with exchanges between participants and project stakeholders.
