PiroGoTick launch

Participatory Research: National Launch of PiroGoTick

PiroGoTick, a national participatory scientific research project on piroplasmosis and horses.

Equine piroplasmosis is a parasitic disease caused by two parasites: Babesia caballi and Theileria equi. These parasites are transmitted from one animal to another through the tick. In France, this disease is present throughout the country, but few data exist about it.

The PiroGoTick project aims to collect data on the disease, the ticks, but also on the two parasites that are responsible for the disease: Babesia caballi and Theileria equi. Different parts of the project will allow to have a global inventory of the disease, with tick collections, blood samples from participating horses.

This is a participatory science project, the material will be collected on a voluntary basis and in collaboration with equine associations.

The project is carried out by UMR BIOEPAR, CISCO (Oniris International Horse Health Centre), RESPE (Réseau d'Epidémiologie Surveillance en Pathologie Equine) and the Association for the Development of Equine Sciences.
