Flaxseed use improves dairy cow production

The use of linseed improves the production of dairy cows (web-agri - le quotidien de l'éleveur)

The use of linseed in the feed of dairy cows increases their milk production and improves the reproductive performance of herds, according to a study presented Tuesday in Rennes.

Funded by Valorex, a company specialising in animal nutrition, this epidemiological study was conducted by Thomas Meignan, a PhD student at the Bioepar joint research unit (Oniris-Inra supervision) in Nantes. Some 1,200 herds and nearly 2 million milk controls were analysed to assess the effects of linseed on the quantity and composition of milk over an eight-year period, compared with a reference herd that did not receive flax.
