Milk: flaxseed boosts production

Milk: linseed boosts production (France 3 Bretagne)

An epidemiological study presented on Tuesday 28 November in Rennes confirms it: the use of linseed in the feed of dairy cows increases their milk production. Quantity, quality but also fertility are impacted.

The effects of flaxseed are many and varied! According to the epidemiological study conducted by Thomas Meignan, PhD student at the Bioepar joint research unit in Nantes and presented Tuesday in Rennes, the higher the quantity of flax ingested by the cow, the more milk production increases.
Supporting figures: cows ingesting 789 grams of flaxseed per day on average see their daily production increase by a maximum of 1.3 kg of milk/day. This effect increases with the number of calvings. On the other hand, the milk fat content decreases with increasing doses of flax and the number of calvings (up to 89 grams less per litre of milk).
